Last summer we had the pleasure of participating in WB Surf Camp in NC. Our 13-year-old daughter and CAP Kid, Maddie was reluctant to try surfing. At the end of the day when she said, -That was the best day of my life!- we knew we had to make surfing possible for every CAP Kid!! Please join us for Alopeciapalooza 2012, which will be the perfect mix of empowerment, learning, and bonding with the added thrill of surfing and spending time with old and new friends on the beach. We will be staying at the beachfront Salt & Light Center in North Topsail Beach and, with an all-star lineup of speakers--some returning, some new--once again Alopeciapalooza will provide our CAP Kids and their families with a change of focus from growing hair to growing self-esteem.
General Information
CAP Kids are FREE, and the cost for parents and siblings who register by June 1st will be $250 per person. After June 1st, the cost will be $275. This cost includes all workshops and activities, shuttles while at camp, participation in WB Surf Camp, beachfront lodging Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights, and 9 meals from Thursday dinner through Sunday lunch.

"I'm OK" CAP Kid Panel: A group of well-adjusted Courageous, Accepted, & Proud Kids will talk to parents and other CAP Kids about overcoming adversity and living life to the fullest. Parents, siblings, and other CAP Kids will have the opportunity to ask this panel anything about living with alopecia and what it means to them to be "OK'.

Directions
The Salt & Light Center is in the town of North Topsail Beach on Topsail Island. Look for the Alopeciapalooza banner and you will know you are there!
From the West - Raleigh, Durham, Chapel Hill etc.
Take 1-40 to exit 408, marked ?Hampstead Rocky Point, Topsail Island Beaches.? After exiting, turn left on highway 210. Stay on Highway 210 through Hampstead and Surf City. Turn left on NC 210 in Surf City and follow NC 210 to North Wicker and immediately turn right into our parking lot.
From the North - Baltimore, Washington, D.C., Richmond, etc.
Take I-95 south to I-40 at Benson, NC?Turn Southeast on I-40 and continue as above.
From the south on U.S. 17N - Myrtle Beach, etc.
US 17N joins NC 210 at Hampstead, N.C. Continue as above.
From the deep South - take I-95 N to US 74/76.
Take US 74/76 East to Wilmington, N.C. Turn left on US 17N and continue as above.
From the North on Highway 17 - Norfolk, Portsmouth, etc.
Stay on US17South through Verona, N.C. to the traffic light at Dixon Middle School. Turn left on NC 210. Stay on NC 210, over high rise bridge, until you get to Wicker Street. Turn left on Wicker and then right into our parking lot.
Make Alopeciapalooza Part of Your Summer 2012 Vacation Plans
On a first-come, first-serve basis, CAP is able to offer rooms at Salt & Light Center from Sunday, August 5th through Thursday, August 9th (when Alopeciapalooza begins) for $125.00 per night. Each newly renovated room contains six twin-size beds and has a private bathroom with a/c controls.
Salt & Light Center offers ocean and bay views and family friendly bedrooms with private bathrooms, a/c controls and multiple decks to enjoy the salty air and scenic views and the center?s private beach access less than 20 feet away. Salt and Light Retreat Center is not a religious affiliated organization. The owner is a Christian and his goal is to offer the retreat to any organization that helps children. He wants Salt & Light to be filled with kids, helping kids all year round!! We agree!!

While visiting the Topsail area, you will enjoy some of the most pristine, uncrowded beaches along the east coast. The area boasts the greatest simple pleasures life has to offer.
